The only goal of the game was scored by 19-year-old forward player, Dango Quattara in the second minute of the first-half stoppage time to give the Burkinabe the lead. The Tunisians pushed for an equaliser in the second half but they found it difficult to break the Burkina Faso's defence.

The only downside for the West African country is that they will be without their goal scorer, Quattara in the semi-final. The striker was sent off on the 82nd minute for a dangerous play on a Tunisian Player.

This is the third consecutive time that Burkina Faso will be beating Tunisia in the quater-final of the AFCON.

Burkina Faso will play the winner of either Senegal or Equatorial Guinea in the Semifinal for a place in the final of the 33rd Edition of the African Cup of Nations.

With shocking qualification to the quarterfinals from some countries in Africa, the AFCON 2021 has taken a shocking turn since its commencement, with countries like Burkina Faso, Tunisia, and the Gambia having prevailed in the round of 16 against all odds.

Tunisia, now in the quarter-finals, is set to face Burkina Faso and will be attempting to win the most coveted trophy in Africa for the second time in AFCON 2021. The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their round of 16 fixture after finishing 3rd in the group stages. This came as a shocker to many because of the formidable run of Nigeria in the group stages of the AFCON 2021.

After the COVID-19 outbreak that limited the quality of the Tunisian side and back-to-back losses in the group stages of AFCON 2021, it is still shocking how Tunisia has made it this far, even when the odds were stacked against them.

Burkina Faso, as a country, is currently not in a good place after its military overthrew the democratic government. This questions how fit mentally this side would be ahead of their AFCON 2021 quarterfinals against Tunisia.

Head-to-head

This is the third time both sides will meet in the African Cup of Nations and Burkina Faso has successfully defeated Tunisia in the two meetings on penalties.

Records don't matter if the current form is shaky. With Tunisia losing three and winning two out of their last five matches in AFCON 2021, Burkina Faso looks like they stand a better chance after drawing the last three out of their last five matches. in the competition.

Date, start time, and location.

The kick-off for this fixture will be at 8 pm today, January 29, 2022, at the Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua, Cameroon.

Burkina Faso will go into this match without their key starter, Issoufou Dayo, who is in doubt after missing the game with Gabon as a result of an injury.

Burkina Faso's expected lineup: Koffi; Kabore, Ouattara, Tapsoba, Yago; Nikiema, Guira, Sangare, Bande; Outtara, Traore.

Tunisia's possible starting lineup is as follows: Said; Drager, Talbi, Ifa, Haddadi; Skhiri, Laidouni, Slimane; Khaziri, Jaziri, Msakni.

The opening game of the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations lived up to the expectations of football fans around the world. Cameroon started their quest to win the competition by getting maximum points against Burkina Faso.

Cameroonian Players vs Burkina Faso

Here are five things we learnt from the game:

(1) Burkina Faso were clumsy in defense:

Lack of experience showed in the defense of the Burkina Faso team following two rash tackles in their penalty area in the space of five minutes. This lack of experience ensured the hosts got maximum points in the opening group game.

(2) Cohesion in Cameroon's defense:

The Indomitable Lions' cohesion in their defense will be a key factor if they are going to win the African Cup of Nations. There is an understanding among the four players in the backline and this will give them to strength to sniff out any attacking threats that their opposition will throw at them going forward in the competition.

(3) Andre Onana's Experience for Cameroon:

The Cameroonian player who plays his football for Ajax was able to sniff off any threats coming towards his goal post. Despite the lack of attacking play from Burkina Faso, the goalkeeper was always aware and ready for action whenever he was called upon by the opposition players.

(4) Vincent Aboubakar's awareness in Cameroon's attack line is Key:

The awareness of Vincent Aboubakar in the opposition penalty area will remind the Cameroonians about Roger Miller. The strength of the Lions' captain and how he gets past players is impressive. If he continues at the same pace, then he might be the country's highest goal scorer and also be key in helping the nation win the Africa Cup of Nations.

(5) Burkina Faso Has a Chance in the Group:

Burkina Faso showed a glimpse of hope whenever they had the chance to attack the Cameroonian defense. They need to be able to get a good grip on their finishing touches whenever they are in the opposition area. They still have to play Ethiopia and Cape Verde. If they try to keep their goal difference at a reasonable number and try to get a victory against their other group opponents.
