Social media played a significant role in amplifying the feud, with fans passionately debating the merits of each artist. Despite the tension, Ruger and BNXN continued to thrive in their careers, with their respective styles earning them recognition and loyal followings. Ultimately, the feud came to an end when the two artists decided to collaborate on a new album, highlighting the transient nature of conflicts in the music industry. Reflecting on the beef, both artists acknowledged the unnecessary nature of their feud and the role of their passionate fan bases in perpetuating it.

7. Reminisce vs Vector

Their journey began almost simultaneously, with breakout hits that catapulted them into the limelight and solidified their positions as leaders in the Afrobeat genre. From subtle jabs on social media to full-blown X (Twitter) wars, Davido and Wizkid have engaged in a back-and-forth battle that has kept fans on the edge of their seats. Despite several attempts at reconciliation, including a joint appearance in 2015, the tension persisted. Both artists continue to contribute to Nigerian music, with Ruggedman respected as a rapper and 9ice maintaining his popularity. The Ruggedman vs. 9ice beef remains a significant chapter in Nigerian music history, offering lessons on communication and reconciliation.

1. 2Baba vs Black Face

Despite attempts at reconciliation and out-of-court settlements, the feud continued, highlighting issues of intellectual property rights and personal grievances in the music industry. Nigerian reggae singer Blackface accused Olamide, Wizkid, and other Nigerian artists of stealing his songs and lyrics and giving him no credit.

In a recent podcast interview on The Honest Brunch with renowned musician Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo also known as Blackface, he candidly discussed his genuine sentiments regarding the Nigerian music industry. The Honest Bunch is an audio-visual podcast that tackles contemporary issues relevant to millennials and Gen Z. The four main personalities of the show are Nedu, Husband Material, Deity Cole, and Naomi.

In earlier episodes, Nedu and other members of the Honest Brunch had attempted to delve into the reasons behind Blackface's recurrent accusations of Nigerian artists appropriating his "sounds, rhymes, and vibes". During the interview, Blackface said, "If you can not copyrightly, don't copy at all". He had accused Wizkid and Banky W of copying his lines from his hit song 'Like the Way'.

The show's host held the view that the music industry lacks proper education regarding concepts like copyright infringement. However, Blackface disagreed with this assessment, believing that his fellow Nigerian artists intentionally engage in such actions.

The singer known for 'Hardlife' also asserted that he was the one who wrote African Queen for Tuface Idibia. As the interview continued, the media personalities from The Honest Bunch made an effort to discuss instances of songs attributed to the singer to which the artiste replied "Ginger by wizkid is my song twist and turn. How many sons has Olamide jacked in his career. Plenty. Theres a song of mine called killer". Blackface accused Olamide of using the percussion and melody from his song Killer to compose Don't Stop.

This incredible reunion and peacekeeping were made on the 24th of July at the memorial of Nigerian legendary artiste Sound Sultan, who passed on in the early days of July 2021 after being diagnosed with throat cancer.

The defunct group made peace during Sound Sultan's elder brother, Eldee's tribute where he urged the members of the Plantashun Boiz to make peace while they're alive, as life can be fleeting. He encouraged them to act in the spirit of forgiveness, oneness, love, and all that Sound Sultan represents. He said;

In the spirit of everything that sound sultan represents, this day makes the beginning of a new spirit of love, forgiveness, oneness, perfection in our hearts and may we leave an example to the world at large that no matter how bad it is, it can be made well, it can be made to be good. Blackface bashes Wizkid for calling out President Buhari and advised him to channel the same energy to create better music.

Blackface and Wizkid

In light of the Endsarz campaign on social media, as celebrities and many Nigerians were lending their voices and demanding accountability and better governance from the government, Backface decided to attack one of the biggest music export in Africa, Wizkid.

It came as an encouragement to many to witness the Superstar ‘Wizkid’ who hardly discussed politics, to call out President Buhari over a well wish post to President Trump.  Wizkid’s response to President Buhari was to set his priorities straight. In his words:

Donald Trump is not your business old man! Police and Sarz still killing Nigeria youth on a daily! Do something! Nothing concern you for America! Face your country!!

However, Blackface felt a need to give Wizkid a taste of own medicine with a response to channel his focus on music instead of politics. In his words:

Why don't you face music small man? I understand why that is difficult because, it doesn't have any substance #Childrenofnowadays

Many Nigerians took it upon themselves to come for Blackface for his clout chasing.

2Baba Blackface Beef settled

2baba X Blackface

Following weeks of mediation, pop legend/ entrepreneur/humanitarian, Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2Baba has agreed to an out-of-court settlement with former Plantashun Boiz bandmate, Augustine Ahmedu, also known as Blackface.

2Baba had in 2018 dragged Blackface to court for defamation of character, following several claims made by Blackface across several media platforms. Blackface had accused 2Baba and his manager/business partner, Efe Omorogbe of intellectual property theft, claiming that 2Baba stole his songs "African Queen" and "Let Somebody Love You". He also accused the duo of blacklisting him in the industry and sabotaging his career.

After Blackface ignored a cease and desist request from Mr. Justin Ige, principal at Creative Legal on behalf of Innocent Idibia and Efe Omorogbe, the only legal option was the filing of a defamation suit with a N50m damages claim.

Blackface's preliminary objection was dismissed by the court in April 2019 by the Honourable Justice Oyefeso and his counterclaim was withdrawn in October. Justice Oyefeso who then proceeded to refer the matter to the Lagos Multi-Door Court for mediation.

The mediation process anchored by Mrs. Ronke Koku resulted in the out-of-court settlement that was finalized on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

Blackface submitted to apologize to 2Baba and to desist from making any such defamatory claims in the future. His apology reads:

Having consulted with my Solicitors, I do hereby revoke all allegations of intellectual property theft and career sabotage previously made against Mr. Innocent Idibia and Mr. Efe Omorogbe.

These statements were erroneously made under misapprehension as to their accuracy, due to prevailing circumstances at the time. I have been advised on the inaccuracy of my previous allegations and retract them entirely.

I undertake to refrain from making any such subsequent statements against the persons of Mr. Innocent Idibia and Mr. Efe Omorogbe in future”.

2Baba and his manager, Efe Omorogbe, on their part, graciously accepted the apology and graciously agreed not to proceed with the N50million claim in damages against Blackface bringing to an end, the long-drawn media drama that has threatened to completely destroy the Plantashun Boiz legacy.

Parties also agreed to work together to effect name change of Blackface from Ahmedu Austin to Ahmedu Augustine at appropriate quarters.

2Baba noted:

I'm happy and relieved that this matter has been settled and Efe Omorogbe and I are satisfied with the outcome. I can't thank family, friends and fans enough for their steadfast love and support. Thanks also to our lawyer, Mr Justin Ige. Blessings to one and all. God bless Blackface too. Time to move on.

It is disheartening to see musicians who were once inseparable take turns at one other over trivial issues. Much worse is when the beef is skewed to one side, leaving one person bitter while the other person is not bothered in the slightest bit.

As one party lays numerous accusations, the other party is seated relaxedly, chugging down a jar of beer while watching his or her favorite station.

Since time immemorial, Blackface has taken a stance against Nigerian legendary musician Tu Baba (who was formerly known as 2face), zealously accusing the African Queen singer of intellectual theft, with claims that many of Tu Baba's songs are, as a matter of fact, his own songs.

Blackface

Asides from the fact that the accusation reeks of sheer buffoonery, Blackface appears to be going about handling the situation in a wrong way and it might end up being counterintuitive.

2baba

Several years back, there was a popular music group known as Plantashun Boiz. The group consisted of three acts namely 2face, Faze, and Blackface. They were responsible for shaping the Nigerian sound during the late 90s and early 2000s, releasing back to back hits and ruling the pop scene.

Faze

However, for some unknown reason, the group split up and each artist pursued a solo music career. So far, 2Baba has been the most successful out of the trio. He released African Queen in 2004 and the song went ahead to become one of the greatest hits of all time, breaking and setting records.

Ever since Blackface has made it a lifelong mission to discredit 2face and stir controversy because of his claims that many of 2face's songs are either his or belonged to them both.

Blackface has taken this matter to court and there has yet to be any major development since then. Rather, there has only been more allegations from Blackface without any response from 2face. It is safe to say that 2face is ensuring to avoid any form of conflict or it could be that Blackface is delusional and 2face has refused to take him seriously. Now, no one knows the veracity of Blackface's claims. No one has come out to corroborate his story.

Blackface

Blackface seems to have become obsessed with hating on 2face and is doing everything possible to sabotage the singer's career. To what end? There is hardly any reward if Blackface successfully ruins 2face's career - although it's highly unlikely - so what does he stand to gain? Bringing another man down won't magically make you rise. That's not how the world works.

If there's a splinter of truth in whatever Blackface is saying, then is it not better to focus more on his craft and sever all ties with 2face instead of this tomfoolery?

Tuface

A few days back, Blackface released a diss track War. The track is centered on Blackface's vindictiveness, showing how much hatred Blackface harbors for 2face. It's disturbing and it tells more about Blackface than about 2face. Why won't Blackface let this matter go?

If he truly wrote the songs then it shouldn't be so difficult to write new songs then, yes? This has gone beyond just wanting justice for being cheated. It has become an unhealthy obsession with a superstar and honestly, it's counterproductive.

He has reduced himself to a bitter ex whose life revolves around the partner who broke his heart. He has caged himself in a box such that the only thing that matters to him is the downfall of 2face.

Blackface

Blackface is at least 40 years old - old enough to avoid unpleasant situations instead of immersing himself in them. He could easily focus on the betterment of his own career while leaving the matters in the hands of legal practitioners. But he is not willing to go through that route. He would rather mess things up and ultimately mess himself up, focusing on things that have been long forgotten, instigating a dispute that has forever been one-sided. It's painful to watch a man who could have easily walked the itinerary of music legends engage in a cockeyed altercation.
