Bayern Munich have confirmed the appointment of Vincent Kompany as its manager on a three-year deal after the Bavarians sealed a compensation deal with Burnley Football Club.

The news was confirmed on Bayern Munich's official website on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, according to reports from the club, Vincent Kompany will join the Bundesliga club ahead of the 2024/25 football season.

Bayern brought in Kompany as a perfect choice to led to club to glory next season as a replacent for Tuchel's successor, with Xabi Alonso, Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann and Austria coach Ralf Rangnick all turning down the job to manage the job at the Allianz Arena.

What did Vincent Kompany say?

" I am looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern. It's a great honour to be able to work for this club - FC Bayern is an institution in international football. As a coach, you have to stand for who you are as a person: I love having the ball, being creative and we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and courageous. I am now looking forward to the most basic things: working with the players, building a team. When the foundation is in place, success will follow."

Bayern Munich's decision to hire Kompany has come as a shock to a lot of football lovers around the world but the supporters of the club will hope this turns out to be a good decision at the end of this current season.

Burnley's Vincent Kompany is reportedly set to complete a move to the German side, Bayern Munich as the new head coach ahead of the 2024/2025 club football season.

According to the Guardian UK, Bayern Munich are a few steps away from solving their initial concerns about the role of the head coach ahead of the 2024/2025 season after it was confirmed that Thomas Tuchel would leave at the end of the season.

Following the confirmation of the departure of Tuchel, Bayern was faced with the uphill task of finding a replacement for the German with many coaches not showing interest in the position, but at the end of the season, it was confirmed that Vincent Kompany of Burnley was the club's current target to fill the open position.

Despite his involvement in Burnley's relegation from the Premier League, the Belgian emerged as a surprising contender. Advanced discussions are underway, and it is reported that Burnley's owner, Alan Pace, engaged in talks with Bayern officials regarding compensation on Wednesday. The expectation is for the deal to be finalized by the end of the week.

Kompany, who started his coaching career at Anderlecht, gained a strong reputation when he joined Burnley two years ago. The former Manchester City defender made a big impact in the Championship, receiving excellent feedback for transforming a defensive team into an exciting attacking side and leading Burnley back into the Premier League in their first attempt.

There was optimism that Burnley could thrive in the top flight by maintaining their progressive style of play. With a side like Bayern however, the possibilities are limitless because of the quality the squad possesses on the field of play.

The manager of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel, is set to sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club, but he has put in place certain conditions if he will stay beyond this season.

Earlier this season, Thomas Tuchel announced that he would leave the Allianz Arena at the end of this campaign following a series of poor results in cup competitions and the league. However, there might be a change of plan as Bayern is yet to find a perfect replacement for the German.

There are reports from top sports journalists that representatives of both parties have been in constant communication this week and it looks more likely that Tuchel will sign a new deal.

Why did Tuchel announce that he wants to leave Bayern Munich?

The former Chelsea manager agreed to leave Bayern Munich after a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions which appears to have cost him his job. Back-to-back Bundesliga losses to Bayer Leverkusen and Bochum left Bayern eight points off the top spot while they also suffered a UEFA Champions League last-16 first-leg setback against Lazio in Rome.

Why will Thomas Tuchel remain at Bayern Munich?

Bayern Munich is keen on keeping Tuchel beyond this season but for this deal to see the light of day, it comes with a caveat. He has reportedly demanded that Bayern sign Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United and Joao Palhinha from Fulham. Tuchel believes that the absence of the number six position and a creative midfielder was the reason why Bayern Munich was not up to par this season.

The Bavarians could also be losing Jamal Musiala during the summer transfer window. According to reports, Manchester City is interested in signing the young German in a bid to boost their squad.

What did Thomas Tuchel say?

However, in the turn of events, Thomas Tuchel revealed that both parties could not reach an agreement on things he expected from the club for a contract extension to be signed.

"The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion to stay and continue together but we couldn't reach an agreement. I won't name the reasons. The agreement from February stands, I am leaving Bayern."

The manager of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel was left fuming after Matthijs de Ligt's goal was disallowed for an offside which he felt was a mistake from the linesman and the referee.

Tuchel did not hide his anger when he was asked about the goal during the post-match press conference after the game. According to the German, the decision by the referee and linesman was nothing short of a disaster.

What was the controversial moment that happened in the game?

Bayern thought they had snatched a 113th-minute equaliser when Dutch defender De Ligt hit the net, but play had already been stopped for an offside call and this decision could not allow the incident to be reviewed by VAR.

What did Thomas Tuchel say about the incident?

"That was an absolute disaster. A violation of the rules. This scene must be played out to the end. That's the rule. The linesman made the mistake, and the referee made the second mistake. We were almost there and a very unusual mistake of the best player for the equaliser, then we conceded in a very narrow decision in stoppage time. Then we scored one and it was a disastrous decision from the linesman and the referee, so it feels almost like a betrayal in the end because of that decision. The linesman said sorry. That does not help at that kind of level, to raise the flag in a decision like this, in a close decision in the last minute. The referee as well, does not have to whistle, he sees that we win the second ball, and he sees that we get the shot away. To whistle is a very, very bad decision. It is against the rules and it is a bad decision from both of them. It is a disaster, tough to swallow, but it is the way it is.”

He added,

"Having the balls to raise the flag in a situation like that is a big mistake. And then the referee, when he saw that we won the rebound, made the decision to whistle. It wouldn't have happened the other way round. We accept the apology (from the linesman) but this is not the time to apologise. It's the semi-finals and it's not the time to make those sort of mistakes.”

Real Madrid won the game 4-3 on aggregate and they will face Borussia Dortmund in the final where they will be looking to win the Champions League for a record 15th time, a feat that has never been achieved by any club.

The England international made this known in the pre-match conference before the second leg of the quarter-final clash against the Gunners. Kane confirmed that Bayern will be without its two-key players, Serg Gnabry and Kingsley Coman.

He said,

"It is disappointing for King and Serge. They've struggled with injuries this season, it's not easy to watch teammates when they can't be there. But it doesn't matter who we line up with tomorrow. We're also fighting for the injured players and hope they come back quickly.”

Reports now indicate that Bayern Munich might be looking to re-hire Julian Nagelsmann following the confirmed departure of Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Bayern Munich may have found their new head coach based on recent reports released on Monday. They have reportedly set their sights on former head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who was dismissed by Bayern just over a year ago during a previous sporting regime.

Nagelsmann is currently overseeing the German men's national team as they prepare for EURO 2024. Nagelsmann's firing in March of last year, with the statement "the treble is in danger," came as a surprise to many. His replacement, Thomas Tuchel, had a difficult time impressing the board. By the end of last season, two top board members - CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan "Brazzo" Salihamidžić - had departed.

According to Sky Sports, "Bayern have made their decision - the club wants Julian Nagelsmann as new coach. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are in concrete talks and negotiations with Nagelsmann’s agents, talks are advanced. Bayern are offering a 3 to 4 year contract. Nagelsmann has not given his final approval yet. The DFB are still hoping he would extend his contract as Germany coach until 2026. As of now, Nagelsmann has neither accepted nor rejected either offer - but the tendency is rather towards Bayern."

Former Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane could be the next man in line to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of this season ( 2023/24).

There have been reports from Marca that Bayern Munich have reached out to Zidane with a proposal to take over from the start of the 2024/25 season, with former Bayern player Franck Ribery possibly coming in as his assistant manager. Bayern had announced in February 2024 that Tuchel would leave the club in the summer after a poor season that saw them lose the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen.

Zidane has not managed any club since he left Real Madrid in May 2021 which is three years ago. However, there are reports from France that Zidane is holding out for the France job, which is currently held by Didier Deschamps who will probably be in charge until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Zidane won La Liga twice as Real Madrid's manager, as well as two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, and two Club World Cups in addition to his three Champions League titles.

Bayern Munich supporters were left disappointed following the injury to one of its first team players, Kingsley Coman ahead of the crucial Champions League game against Arsenal.

The Bavarians confirmed that the Kingsley Coman sustained an injury in his right abductor during the league game against Koln. According to reports from the club, he is expected to be out for a few weeks after he injured himself in the game.

The statement read;

"Kingsley Coman will be out of action for FC Bayern for several weeks after the forward suffered an injury in his right adductor muscle in the Bundesliga home game against Köln on Saturday. This was confirmed following an examination by FC Bayern's medical department. Coman injured himself after a movement in the Köln penalty area with no intervention from an opponent and had to be substituted in the 50th minute."

The injury to Coman is also a big worry for Thomas Tuchel ahead of the game against Arsenal after Alphonso Davies was ruled out of the match for picking up a yellow card in the first leg.

The second leg which will be played at the Allianz Arena is set to give football fans something to look forward to after the first leg ended 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich has struggled to perform at their usual level and has been overshadowed by current League Leaders, Bayer Leverkusen.

Both teams will face off at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in hopes of securing a spot in the final four of the competition.

HEAD TO HEAD

Both teams have faced each other 12 times in the past, all in the Champions League. Their first match was in December 2000 when Arsenal were leading 2-0 but ended up drawing 2-2 in the second group stage. They lost 1-0 in Munich in March 2000. Bayern has eliminated Arsenal from the competition on four occasions, all at the round of 16 stage.

The first time they met in the knock-out stage was during the 2004/05 season, despite winning 1-0 at Highbury, Arsenal lost 3-2 on aggregate. In 2013, Arsenal won the second leg 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, but it wasn't enough to overturn a 3-1 loss in the first leg. Arsenal was knocked out of the competition in 2014 and 2017, which was the last time they faced Bayern.

Bayern Munich supporters will be keeping their fingers crossed ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Arsenal.

The Bavarians were drawn against the high-flying Gunners for a spot in the semi-final as both teams will be looking to emerge winners of the competition. However, Bayern have a lot to worry about before the game as their highest goal scorer in the league, Harry Kane has been confirmed to be injured.

Bayern confirmed the injury to the England international on its official website on Sunday, March 17, 2024. According to the club, Kane suffered an injury in his left ankle and has travelled to his country for treatment.

The statement read thus,

"Kane injured his left ankle in FC Bayern’s 5-2 win at Darmstadt. The striker has still travelled to international duty with England and will be treated by the team doctors there, in close consultation with the FC Bayern medical department."

Everyone at Bayern will hope Kane gets fit before they travel to the Emirates on April 9, 2024, before the second leg game at the Allianz Arena.
