Barcelona have confirmed that Wojciech Szczesny has signed for the club for the rest of the 2024/25 season following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury.

Barcelona confirmed the arrival of Wojciech Szczesny on its official website on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. According to the club, Wojciech Szczęsny will remain at the Catalonia giants until the end of this season.

The statement read as follows,

"FC Barcelona and Wojciech Szczęsny have reached an agreement for the goalkeeper to join the Club until 30 June 2025"

Recall that the Polish international had announced his retirement in the summer but has been tempted to play again by a unique challenge at Barcelona after Ter Stegen’s devastating injury. Szczesny confirmed in his first interview that his countryman, Robert Lewandowski, was the first to reach out to him when there was an opening at the club.

“He was the first person who called me to look into the possibility of this happening because I was retired. At first I wasn’t ready for new challenges but I spoke to my family and friends and they all told me it would be a mistake not to accept this. That’s why Robert played a very important role because he was the person who had the idea to convince me.”

Szczesny will hope that he can add more trophies to his cabinet at the end of this season with Barcelona.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could be on his way out of retirement to join Barcelona as a free agent on a loan deal for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

Wojciech Szczesny confirmed his retirement from football at the age of 34, after he decided not to sign a contract extension with Serie A side, Juventus. There are reports that the reason why the Polish goalkeeper is looking at coming out of retirement is to replace Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who suffered an injury in the league game against Barcelona.

There are some unconfirmed reports that Wojciech Szczesny's decision is because of his relationship with Barcelona striker and fellow Polish star Robert Lewandowski, while he is well-known to Flick's staff following his experiences in European football.

Szczesny was last in action at Euro 2024 in the summer when he played two of Poland's three group games at the tournament.

The other goalkeeper on Barcelona's radar is former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-German goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who played for the Galacticos from 2014-2019, before completing his move to the French capital.

The final decision will be down to Barcelona's coach, Hansi Flick, and the clubs sporting director Deco, as they will both decide which goalkeeper they will sign for the rest of the season.

Following an injury he picked up in the La Liga fixture against Villareal, a new update on the availability of Barcelona's Ter Stegen has been confirmed.

Barcelona's No 1 goalkeeper, Marc Ter Stegen is likely to miss the rest of the season according to recent update following a severe injury suffered in Barcelona’s 5-1 victory against Villarreal over the weekend.

Ter Stegen in his attempt to claim a corner had a bad fall which affected his right knee causing him to be stretched off the pitch in visible pain and he was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical assessment.

When asked about the German keeper following their victory, Barcelona’s head coach, Hans Flick in an interview stated, "It doesn't look good for Marc, we have to wait to know the full diagnosis of the injury, but it's true it does appear to be really serious. This injury makes us sad. I think the injury will be huge, but we have to wait for information."

Barcelona in an official report confirmed that the German had undergone surgery adding that his recovery will determine his return date to the club. Given the nature of his injury (patella tendon injury in his right knee) the recovery time is expected to be around 7-9 months, which effectively rules him out for the remainder of the season.

This is a significant blow for Barcelona, as Ter Stegen has been a key player for them. His absence adds to the club’s growing injury list, and Barcelona will likely have to rely on backup goalkeeper Iñaki Peña for the rest of the season or delve into the transfer market in January 2025 to search for another option.

Dani Olmo's registration at Barcelona is still pending due to the club's need to meet the rule, which requires them to free up space on their roster.

The club is working to register Dani Olmo before their next match against Athletic Bilbao, and there is a possibility that his registration could be made official just minutes before the game. According to reports, one of the reasons why Ilkay Gundogan went back to Manchester City is to allow the club to free up their financial book which will allow them to register the Spaniard.

However, the sale of Gundogan is not enough for the Catalans giants to register Olmo, the club is also finalising Vitor Roque’s exit to Real Betis but the Brazilian isn’t registered for this season (2024/25) yet either. Mikayil Faye is another player expected to move on, while Clement Lenglet is also surplus to requirements but finding a new club for the Frenchman has been difficult with less than two weeks to the end of the 2024 summer transfer window.

How will Barcelona register Dani Olmo for the 2024/25 season?

(1) Barcelona is also close to finalizing a deal with Aramark for the sale of Barça Studios, which would enable them to register Olmo.

(2) Barcelona are also looking to get a new deal from Nike, the money might be enough for the club to register the forward player.

(3) The Sale of more players or reduction of the wages of some key players in the club, will reduce the cost of players' salaries for the new season.

How much did Barcelona sign Dani Olmo?

Barcelona signed Olmo for €55m (£46m) and €7m (£5m) in add-ons to sign him from RB Leipzig.

Barcelona recently sealed a deal worth €40m with catering and logistics firm Aramark, however, they still need to raise €60m to cover the non-payments for the sale of Barca Vision. Unless the club manages to raise the remaining amount, they won't be able to sell any more players for La Liga 2024/25 season.

Barcelona fans will hope that the club will sort out the situation before their next league game against Bilbao.

The love story between Manchester City and Ilkay Gundogan might still have some pages left in it as the German international has been rumoured for a possible return to the Etihad just a season after he joined Barcelona.

There have been several reports going through on the media that Manchester City and the camp of Ilkay Gundogan have both been in contact as they are looking at sealing the deal before the 2024 summer transfer window closes.

Pep Guardiola and Ilkay Gundogan have reportedly spoken to each other, with the manager giving the green light to the move. The German is under contract at Camp Nou until 2026 after he hit the appearance requirements last season to extend his two-year deal by 12 months.

Gundogan won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and one Champions League during his seven-year stay at Manchester City. He decided to leave City during the 2023 summer transfer window as a free agent contributing five goals and nine assists in 36 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.

Why does Ilkay Gundogan want to leave Barcelona?

There have been a lot of questions among Barcelona supporters concerning why the midfielder has decided to leave the Catalan giants.

One of the major reasons is due to the financial issues that the club have been facing in the past few years which has been the club lose some of its top players in the past. Some of the players that were forced to leave the club includes Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, and Lionel Messi.

However, Gundogan’s exit would allow Dani Olmo, who was recently signed from RB Leipzig, to be registered for Barcelona next fixture in the league, against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Barcelona's midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan could be on his way out of Camp Nou just a year after he joined the Catalonia giants from the Premier League Champions, Manchester City.

There are reports from Spain confirming that Ilkay Gundogan asked to leave Barcelona following his meeting with the new coach of the club, Hansi Flick who was appointed during the 2024 summer transfer window. The German has always insisted that he wants to see out his contract at the Spanish club which ends in 2025 but with this latest development, there is a huge possibility that he might be holding another jersey by the time the transfer window is closed.

What does this mean for Ilkay Gundogan's future at Barcelona?

There have been several reports that the German could return to Manchester City while Turkish side, Galatasaray are also looking at the possibility of signing the midfielder but they are only willing to bring him in as a free agent. Saudi Arabian side, Al Nassr are also said to be considering a move after being offered the midfielder’s services by Barcelona themselves.

Gundogan’s departure would mean that Barcelona can register new signing Dani Olmo in La Liga as well as any other player that they might sign before the window closes.

What did Hansi Flick say about Gundogan?

The German said in a pre-match press conference before the league game against Valencia. According to him, he already had a conversation with Gundogan about his future at Barcelona.

He said,

"I spoke with him to know how he feels ahead of the season. I know him very well. I appreciate the player and the person he is. We spoke about everything, but it will stay between us, it’s not for you to know. I have a feeling he will stay."

If he decides to leave Barcelona, this will be a big blow for the Catalans as they will be missing someone with leadership and experience on and off the pitch.

La Liga giants, Barcelona are reportedly set to complete another key player signing before the the Summer transfer window closes.

Barcelona remain determined in their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, but they are also exploring other options to strengthen the wings in Hansi Flick's squad. A new potential target has emerged, one familiar to their new manager.

If Barcelona fails to secure Nico Williams, they may consider Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman, who has been offered to the Catalan club by his agents. According to Kerry Hau of Sky Germany, Coman’s representatives are seeking a new club for the French winger, who doesn’t seem to be in the plans of Bayern's new manager, Vincent Kompany.

Despite the interest, Barcelona’s financial constraints mean they won’t be able to sign and register any new players unless they sell a key member of the first team. Bayern Munich has made it clear that Coman does not fit into Kompany's plans, and if Barcelona can't sign him this summer, the German club might look to sell him to his former team, Paris Saint-Germain.

Kingsley Coman's Stats

Coman is considered one of the most promising young talents of his generation. Known for his speed, technical ability, and dribbling skills, he is a versatile winger who can play on either flank, as an attacking midfielder, or even as a striker. Although naturally right-footed, he prefers playing on the left, where he can take on defenders, cut inside onto his right foot, and either shoot, create chances, or make runs into the box.
