There has been a lot of uncertainty around the future of Conor Gallagher since the end of last season as he enters the final year of his contract with Chelsea. The English midfielder has been a top target for Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club sees him as one that fits their style of play.

Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his official X account on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, that both clubs have begun conversations in a bid to seal the deal for Gallagher to Spain. According to reports from Chelsea, they have placed a price tag of a fee from the region of €35 and €40 million which also includes add-ons.

The midfielder has been linked with a possible move to Aston Villa and Tottenham. A sale for Gallagher will bring pure profit for Chelsea as he came through the club's academy.

Chelsea have reportedly been open to a sale as they look to balance their financial books due to the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules. However, this deal does not sit well with some Chelsea fans as they believe that the midfielder is a key part of the club.

The news was confirmed on the club's official website on Thursday, November 9, 2023. According to the details of the new contract, the Argentine international signed a deal that will see him stay at the club until 2027.

Diego Simeone is set to be one of the longest-serving coaches in the world and the longest at the club a football club, he has been with Atletico since 2011. He has managed 642 games, won 380, lost 117, and drawn 145 as at the time when the new contract was announced.

The club have won eight titles since he took over which includes, two league titles (2013/14 and 2020/21), one Copa del Rey (2012/13), two Europa League (2011/12 and 2017/18), two European Super Cups (2012, 2018) and one Spanish Super Cup (2014).

He also led them to two Champions League finals, in 2014 and 2016.

The Spanish club were sanctioned by UEFA following the rash behaviour of some of the Atletico Madrid fans. However, the club released a statement that their ban by UEFA to close a part of the stadium has been overturned.

The club released a statement on the club's website on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022. According to reports from the club, fans will be allowed to occupy the section of the stadium after the Court of Arbitration for Sports ( CAS) accepted the club's appeal.

All members and fans with a season ticket or seat for tonight’s game will be able to access the stadium.

CAS confirmed in a statement that Atletico Madrid will allow fans into the stadium against the ban placed on the club by UEFA.

Atletico’s urgent request to stay the execution of (UEFA’s decision) was granted by CAS earlier today, considering the serious repercussions to local security if the partial stadium closure had to be enforced at this late stage.

Atletico Madrid fans will hope their presence will push the team when they face Manchester City in the second leg of the game.

The Saudi Arabia consortium are looking to build a new team, and the defender is the first signing of the club under the new owners. According to reports from Sky Sports News, Trippier will sign a two and a half year deal with an option of a further year.

Real Madrid confirmed La Liga's statement on its website on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021. According to reports, they took the decision because of the postponed International break for countries in the Conmebol.

The international games were originally supposed to end on Wednesday night but it has been postponed till Thursday night.

This postponement request comes in light of the FIFA decision to extend the Conmebol International break until the night of Thursday 14 October (morning of Friday 15 in Spain) which affects, among others, the citied clubs who must play their UEFA Champions League fixtures on Tuesday 19 October. The new dates and kick-off times for postponed games will be revealed by La Liga in the coming days.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are currently joint top in the League, both clubs have 17 points after playing eight games.
