The fastest woman in the world Jamaica's, Shelly-Ann- Fraser-Pryce, won the heat with a time of 10.73 seconds, with Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji in second place.

Nwokocha would leave the competition with her head up high as she ran her personal best time of 11 seconds in the 100 meters heat on Thursday, July 30th, 2021. This feat makes her the fifth-fastest Nigerian woman in history.

Nigerian Track and Field Athlete, Blessing Okagbare, has blasted the Athletics Federation of Nigeria over the negligence of passing vital information to the ten Nigerian Athletes banned from participating at the Games by the Athletics Integrity Unit on Wednesday, July 27, 2021.

She believes the affected Athletes who were based in Nigeria did not get the proper information they needed before going to Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Okagbare made this statement via her official Twitter account on Thursday, July 29th, 2021. She said,

If anyone who does not know the sports or has no passion for the Athletes, then such a person has no business being an administrator.

The Sports system in Nigeria is so flawed, and we the Athletes are the ones who receive the end of the damages.

Ten Nigerian Athletes were earlier banned for not observing no-notice out-of-competition tests (urine and blood) which are to be conducted not less than three weeks apart in the ten months leading up to a major event.

These are the athletes affected by the ban Ruth Usoro (Jumper), Favour Ofili (Sprinter), Chioma Onyekwere (Discus), Annette Echikunwoke (Hammer), Chidi Okezie (4x100m women), Rosemary Chukwuma (100m), Glory Patrick (4x400m mixed relay), Yinka Ajayi (4x400 mixed relays) and Tima Godless (4x 100m relays)

This decision will be a blow for Nigeria as the chances of winning any medal at the Games just got reduced. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is yet to make an official statement as it concerns the situation.

The Athletics Integrity Unit has banned twenty athletes from participating in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, of which ten of them were Nigerians. The news was confirmed by the Integrity Unit via their official Twitter account on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021.

Team Nigeria Tokyo 2020

They banned the athletes from the Games because of non-compliance with the Out of Competition Testing ( OCT). According to the rule, an athlete from Category A country must at least undergo three no-notice out-of-competition tests which include urine and blood test to be conducted not less than three weeks apart in the 10 months leading to a major event.

This decision is a colossal blow for Nigeria as the chances of winning medals at the Games are now more difficult. Out of the 23 Athletes registered for Athletics, only 13 are now eligible to compete in Tokyo.

As of the time of reporting this news, only 11 Nigerians are on the entry list for the Athletics at Tokyo 2020, which starts on Friday, July 30, 2021. They currently list only 2 each for Mixed 4x400m for Friday, July 30, 2021, and Women's 4x100m for Thursday, August 5th, 2021. Nigeria will have to draft two more athletes into each team to avoid failing to start both races.

The Integrity Unit is an independent body that was set up in 2017 to manage all the threats to the integrity of the sports of Athletics.
