]]>Top Premier League official, Anthony Taylor has been demoted to the Championship after a controversial decision during Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 draw with Newcastle United on Saturday, October 28, 2023. He awarded the Magpies a penalty in the game after Wolves forward player, Hwang Hee-chan, in an attempt to clear the ball from his box, was deemed to have caught Fabian Schar and a penalty was given.
Although the PGMOL has not offered a formal apology to Wolves for the penalty decision, Taylor has been demoted from refereeing Premier League games this weekend.
However, he will take charge of a Championship fixture between Preston and Coventry on Saturday. This will be the first time he will be officiating in the second tier since 2019.

]]>The body released a statement on its official website frowning against how the incident was handled by the Roma supporters.
The statement read thus,
We are shocked and appalled by the unacceptable abuse directed at Anthony Taylor and his family as they traveled back from the UEFA Europa League Final. No one should have to suffer the inexcusable behavior they had to endure yesterday. Anthony is one of our most experienced and accomplished match officials and we fully support him and his family.
Taylor made several calls that did not go well with the Serie A club, one of which was the decision not to send off former Tottenham star Erik Lamela for a second yellow card before he scored in the penalty shootout.
There was also a penalty shout from Roma during the extra time of the match, they believed that they should have been awarded a penalty for a handball. Taylor did not consult the pitchside monitor for that decision as he definitively waved it away.
The manager of Roma, Jose Mourinho also expressed his anger during the post-match conference and in the parking lot after the game. The match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of football but Sevilla won the game 4-1 on penalties.
