Nigerian music icon, Davido, performed at the 2024 Warri Again comedy and music show, marking a significant reconciliation with businessman and former NFF President, Amaju Pinnick.

The two had previously been embroiled in a highly publicized dispute in 2023, with Amaju Pinnick suing Davido for 2 billion naira over his failure to perform at the Warri Again event. However, they later settled out of court.

Davido's headlining performance at this year's show, held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, signaled a newfound understanding between the parties. Notably, Davido had invited Pinnick and his wife to his high-profile wedding earlier this year.

The event featured standout performances from comedians like De Stalker and musicians including Oritsefemi, Odumodublvck, Fave, Shallipopi, and Phyno.

Davido closed the show with hits like Unavailable from his Grammy-nominated album Timeless. This performance follows his recent launch of an athleisure collection and sneakers with Puma.

The singer is set to end 2024 on a high note with his collaboration with Jamaican artist YG Marley.

A Delta High Court in Effurun has approved an out-of-court settlement between Brownhill Investment Company and popular music artist, David Adeleke, known as Davido.

Justice Michael Obi of High Court Three, Effurun, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, praised both parties for resolving the matter amicably. In his statement, Justice Michael Obi said, “I commend both parties for exploring an amicable resolution to settle out of court.”

Brownhill Investment Company, owned by Mr. Amaju Pinnick, former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), filed a suit against Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, in October 2023. The suit, marked EHC/183/2023, was related to a breach of contract for Davido's performance at the 19th edition of the 'Warri Again Concert.'

Mr. Amaju Pinnick's company sought N2 billion in general damages and N150 million for legal and professional fees, with an additional N30 million for filing costs.

Reacting to the court's verdict, Mr. Oladayo Ogungbe, counsel to the defendants, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), "Davido is coming again to Warri on Oct. 4 to perform – that forms part of the settlement."

“It’s fine. It is better than going through the rigors of litigations. Both parties consider the option of having the matter settled out of court, which in my opinion as a lawyer, is the best approach to any litigation. It is a win-win situation to both parties,” Ogungbe added.

The 'Warri Again' concert, an annual event organized by Pinnick, celebrates entertainers from the Niger Delta region.

Delta State High Court has denied Davido's motion to halt all legal proceedings filed against him by Amaju Pinnick.

In November 2023, Amaju Pinnick filed a civil lawsuit against Davido for his no-show at the Warri Again Concert. According to Sahara Reporters, the Delta State High Court in Effurun has dismissed Davido's request to halt legal proceedings in the N2 billion lawsuit filed against him by Brownhill Investment Company Limited.

Brownhill Investments Company Limited, owned by former NFF president Amaju Pinnick, informed the court in November 2023 that Davido was to perform at their event. However, he allegedly failed to honour the agreement, opting to perform at another event in Australia on the scheduled date.

The claimant, represented by Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, is seeking N2 billion in damages from Davido and his music company, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, along with additional expenses. Davido and his legal team filed for a stay of proceedings. This means halting further legal processes in a trial.

Davido's counsel, Mr. Norrison Quakers (SAN), withdrew the motion for a stay of proceedings, citing a pending appeal. Davido's lawyers tried to stop the case by challenging the court's jurisdiction. The court disagreed and didn't accept their argument.

Additionally, the court accepted a request from the party suing Davido (the claimant) to fix any issues with their response to Davido's defence. They also instructed both parties to submit certain paperwork within 14 days. The next court session for this case is scheduled for March 21, 2024.

The former head of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Afrobeats star Davido, and here's why.

Before this lawsuit, the former head of the Nigerian Football Federation had laid claims against the international superstar for failing to honour an agreement between both parties in which Davido had been paid to perform at the 19th edition of Warri Again. The event organisers had to replace Davido with Afropluto singer Shallipopi.

After much back and forth by both parties, Brownhill Investments Company Limited, owned by a former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, filed a lawsuit marked EHC/183/2023 before the Delta State High Court in Effurun against the superstar and his record label.

During the 19th edition of the Warri event, the previous leader of the NFF reiterated that no artist in Nigeria could surpass the importance of Warri. He made comparisons between Davido and renowned figures like Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Burna Boy, and Alibaba. Event organisers had spent $94,600 on Davido's performance and another $18,000 on the private plane for Davido and his crew.

Amaju Pinnick had said at the event, “We paid Davido $94,600 on the 6th of April. We paid $18,000 for his plane. If he says he’s a big boy, we will tell him we are bigger than him. I’m not joking. So, while he was playing his games back and forth, we decided to hunt to find another artiste, Shallipopi. You see, when people say they are big, I’m amazed. Is Burna Boy not the biggest artiste in Nigeria today? Burna Boy is half Itsekiri. Burna Boy’s paternal grandmother is Itsekiri. So, he’s bigger than him (Davido). Is there anyone bigger than RMD in the acting industry? Or someone bigger than Ali Baba in the comedy industry? We have stars aplenty in Warri. Nobody is bigger than Warri."

Davido reacted to these allegations in a series of tweets.

According to Brila.net, the NFF president, who is also a FIFA official, promised that he would help West African players to join major clubs in Europe, citing Villareal, Lille and Valencia, instead of the pauper clubs most agents are always taking Nigerian players to.

Pinnick, who addressed the home-based Super Eagles players in Los Angeles on Saturday night ahead of the friendly match against Mexico which they lost 4-0, made it known. He said:

If you’re living in Nigeria, you’re going to a top club. Villarreal, Valencia, Lille, and all those proud footballing clubs and not to one mushroom club that you’re better off

Nigerian players are known to be eager to play in Europe, hence, giving football agents the chance to leverage on their desire, hereby linking them up with small clubs anywhere in the world. However, according to Pinnick, his administration will try all its possible best to stop that. He said:

I want to expose you, people, to the highest levels so when you’re going to a foreign club, and we won’t allow any agent take you to countries like Cyprus, Belarus, etc., no, never we won’t allow it and I will make sure no transfer is issued on situations like that
