Umar Sadiq's woes at Real Sociedad have been well-documented since his €20 million transfer from Almeria in 2022. The 27-year-old Nigerian striker's promising start was abruptly halted by an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in just his third game. While he managed to return to action last season, his performances have fallen short of expectations.

Sadiq has struggled for consistent form and fitness, managing only one assist in eight games this season. His limited impact raised questions about the reason why his name featured the last Nigeria’s international team. However, the chance he had to depict his worth in the ranks of the Super Eagles was fleeting, and he could not impress the team. Sadiq has recently developed a hamstring injury, which, besides worsening this mediocre performance, raises questions over his capacity to play anew and shed off that promising image he had before.

Victor Boniface picks up a thigh injury

The 2023/24 Bundesliga Rookie of the Year, Victor Boniface, has a problem too. Having scored six goals and one assist in ten Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen, the 6’3” striker has been laid up with a thigh injury contracted while on duty for his national team.

It appears Boniface could be out for weeks, perhaps three months, depending on the extent of the injury sustained. Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso might avail his thoughts on Boniface’s state before their match-up against FC Heidenheim. The likes of Patrik Schick will deputize for Boniface in Leverkusen’s upcoming league game which is a major loss in attack for the side.

Outstanding fitness concerns include a history of injury trouble – he was affected by an adductor problem that took him out of the 2023 season part way through. The club will be hoping this latest setback is not the same as other problems they have encountered in the past.

The Premier League Champions confirmed the news on its official website on Saturday, October 12, 2024, as they will officially end their relationship with Txiki Begiristain after 12 years at Manchester City.

The statement read as follows,

"Manchester City can confirm that Txiki Begiristain will step away from his full-time role as Director of Football at the end of the 2024/25 season. Following a trophy-laden twelve years at the Etihad Stadium, Txiki will leave his current post following the Club’s involvement in this summer’s Fifa Club World Cup and will be succeeded by Hugo Viana of Sporting CP. Viana will begin his full-time role in the summer of 2025 but will collaborate with Txiki in the preceding months to ensure a smooth transition. We look forward to paying tribute to Txiki’s outstanding contribution to Manchester City at the end of the season."

Hugo Viana has an idea of how the Premier League works during his days with Manchester City as well known. He is also used to Spain with Valencia and Osasuna and back in his homeland with Braga, Viana joined Al Ahli (now Shabab Al Ahli) in 2013, helping them win the league, Super Cup and Arabian League Cup.

Nigerian award-winning singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has responded to comments about Afrobeats made by Jamaican reggae legend Buju Banton.

Banton recently criticised the Afrobeats genre, which is currently dominating the global music scene, accusing it of not giving due credit to reggae and dancehall, lacking musical depth, and being a culture vulture movement that stole from Jamaica.

During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, the popular American syndicated radio show hosted by DJ Envy, Charlamagne tha God, and Jess Hilarious, Tems reiterated her stance on the matter when asked about Banton's remarks.

The 29-year-old songstress explained that, like any genre, Afrobeats serves a specific purpose, particularly for its Nigerian originators. According to Tems, Afrobeats is designed to celebrate good times, which is exactly what it does. She emphasised:

"Afrobeats is not reggae; it's not rock. It has a specific purpose. When you think about where it comes from—Nigeria—it’s made for a certain experience. You're welcome to join us in its enjoyment."
