An old interview of Nigerian musician Shallipopi, has resurfaced online, shedding light on his decision to join Dapper Music, a record label owned by Damilola Akinwunmi.

This was in an interview on Zero Conditions podcast with Melody Hassan and Motolani Alake, which has now gone viral. Shallipopi revealed that he was drawn to the label's success with another artist, Seyi Vibez. According to Shallipopi, he was impressed by the label's ability to propel Seyi Vibez to stardom and wanted to experience similar success.

Shallipopi stated that joining Dapper Music was not motivated by financial gain, but rather by a desire to be part of a thriving record label that could help him achieve his goals.

The resurfaced interview has sparked interest online, especially given Shallipopi's recent departure from Dapper Music, alongside fellow artist Muyeez. The two musicians had cited a lack of trust, transparency, and exploitation as reasons for their exit from the label.

The music imprint has released a total of thirteen projects (EP or album) in six month.

Street-hop, also known by the lingo “Afro Adura,” stands as one of Nigeria’s most significant genres. Deeply rooted in ancestral sounds like Fuji & Apala, it also draws inspiration from the church (particularly the white garment tradition) while blending in contemporary elements like Pop, Afropop, Afro-fusion, & Amapiano to stay in tune with modern trends.

In April 2024, Seyi Vibez officially launched his self-owned label, Vibez Inc, introducing a roster that includes familiar face TML Vibez alongside Muyeez, Billion Solar, and Nerryckole.

Since its inception, Seyi Vibez’s Vibez Inc has proven to be a powerhouse of creativity and consistency. According to data, major releases from Seyi Vibez and his Vibez Inc signees have significantly boosted Virgin Music and Dapper Music's market share, surpassing an impressive one billion on-demand streams across five major platforms by the third quarter of 2024.

In less than two months, the collective released 10 tracks, and within just six months, they’ve dropped an astounding 13 projects, solidifying their reputation for maintaining an exceptional work rate. Against this backdrop, we spotlight Vibez Inc's incredible run, delivering some of the most exciting Street-hop tunes 2024 has seen.

The street-hop rapper is fully focused on floating his self-owned record label, which has a number of artistes on it.

Nigerian street-hop sensation Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has confirmed his exit from Dapper Music entertainment.

The 24-year-old rapper and singer, who hails from Benin, burst onto the scene in 2023 with hits like Elon Musk, Oscroh, and Cast. He has continued his rise in 2024 with his album Shakespopi, a feature on Rema's smash hit Benin Boys, and a recent collaboration on Juju, a track by Abuja-based femcee Smur Lee featuring Odumodublvck that quickly went viral on TikTok.

Following rumours that fellow street-hop artist Seyi Vibez has also departed from Dapper Music—after wiping his Instagram clean and updating his bio to "independent"—Shallipopi confirmed his own departure, explaining that his contract with the label had naturally concluded. In a recent interview with Naija FM, he clarified that there was no animosity between him and Dapper Music, stating that it simply felt like the right time to take the next step in his career.
