Grammy award-winning singer Burna Boy has ignited a firestorm of debate with a bold and cryptic declaration on his Instagram story.

The Nigerian music sensation simply stated, "THE MOST SUPERIOR," leaving fans and critics to speculate about the context and meaning behind his words.

Although Burna Boy did not provide further clarification, many have inferred that his statement refers to his musical prowess and supremacy in the industry. This interpretation is likely fueled by Burna Boy's impressive achievements, including becoming the first Nigerian artist to win a Grammy Award and topping the UK charts.

The declaration has sparked a heated discussion on social media. While some fans hailed Burna Boy as a trailblazer and musical icon, others criticized his statement as arrogant and dismissive of other talented artists.

This controversy comes on the heels of Burna Boy's alleged involvement in the arrest of Speed Darlington, who had made contentious comments about Burna Boy's Grammy win.

Notable Nigerian singer, Timaya, has shared a remarkable story of his faith and how it landed him a Bentley car.

In a recent interview with Naija FM 102.7, Timaya recounted how he purchased a key holder for a Bentley at Bishop David Oyedepo's Shiloh event, even though he couldn't afford the luxury vehicle at the time.

Timaya shared this experience while discussing his encounter with fellow artist Burna Boy at a studio. According to Timaya, Burna Boy had confidently predicted that he would one day be paid to enter private jets, which sparked skepticism from artists Omawumi and Waje. Burna Boy's unwavering faith in his vision ultimately proved true, and Timaya drew parallels between Burna Boy's experience and his own.

Timaya emphasized the power of faith and declaration, citing his own experience with the Bentley key holder as proof of this principle. Despite not having the means to purchase the car at the time, Timaya's bold declaration and purchase of the key holder ultimately preceded his acquisition of the luxury vehicle.

GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Eric Bellinger is one the verge of dropping his highly anticipated album ‘It’ll All Make Sense Later’ via All Wins Ent/FTS Global Management. The album, crafted in Cape Town, South Africa and inspired by Africa’s rich sounds, has a bold fusion of R&B, Afrobeats, and Amapiano. Featuring collaborations with some of Africa’s biggest stars, the project includes Ghanaian R&B/Afro-Fusion singer Gyakie, as well as Nigerian acts: GRAMMY® Award-winner Burna Boy, Reekado Banks, Oxlade, Tempoe and Taves.

Eric opened up about the creative and spiritual journey behind the making of his new album, “I traveled to South Africa to create this album and it was one of my greatest experiences in making music. This album is a form of liberation for me. I see it as a Faith Walk—believing that what God has waiting for me on the other side is far greater than what presents itself in the present moment. It’s given me the confidence to move forward, trusting fully in the vision, knowing It’ll All Make Sense Later,” adding, “I hope this album will inspire my fans.”

Along with the album, Eric has released “Shooting Star”—a new single featuring “Kulosa” hitmaker Oxlade already generating a buzz. The track serenading a lover blends Afrobeats and R&B with an infectious laid back beat. “We’re both artists that love to experiment and bring our cultures together,” Eric says of working with Oxlade. “This track is also about reaching for the stars and going after what you want—it's all about triumph.”

The album’s first singles—”Feelings Never Die” and “Special” both tap into Afrobeats, setting the tone for this exciting new era in Eric's music. “Feelings Never Die” is a deeply emotional track about heartbreak and resilience, while “Special”, featuring Jamaican artist Konshens, offers a smooth blend of R&B, Dancehall and Afrobeats, adding depth to Eric’s evolving sound. He describes the album as an evolution in his sound, “I let go of what I thought the standard should be for my songs and I let the music lead the way. With the last album being ‘The Rebirth’—I leaned into that and trusted the shift in my entire life.”

With ‘It’ll All Make Sense Later’, Eric Bellinger continues to push boundaries and explore new sonic territories. The album features a rich tapestry of Amapiano and Afro-influenced tracks, alongside the R&B smoothness that fans have come to know and love from him. The album’s African features give fans a glimpse into Eric’s growth as a global artist, bridging continents and blending genres in a way that feels both innovative and authentic. In fact, this experience has left Eric charged to return to the continent in January 2025, with plans to continue fostering cross-cultural collaborations and creative exchanges.

With over 300 songs and 40 albums to his name, Eric has solidified his place in the music industry as a multi-faceted artist and music executive. His career has included collaborations with major artists like Usher, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo, as well as chart-topping singles like “G.O.A.T” featuring Wale and “Type a Way” featuring Chris Brown and OG Parker. He has also written and produced for global stars, including Chris Brown (“Indigo”, “New Flame”, “Champion”), Teyana Taylor (“69”, “How You Want It” feat. King Combs) and Usher (“Lemme See” feat. Rick Ross).

Reflecting on the creation of ‘It’ll All Make Sense Later’, Eric sums up, “This project is a reflection of my journey, both personally and artistically. I want people to see me and know that I took a chance on something bigger than myself—something beyond what I thought was possible. I trusted my instinct and attached feet to my faith. If I can do it, you can too—whatever your calling or dream may be. There’s so much happening in the world right now, and I see this album as a soundtrack to the joy and positivity that life has to offer. I want this album to make my fans happy. I want it to make people smile.”

His rise to global prominence is a story of early ambition, a deep-rooted connection to African music, and a relentless drive to push boundaries.

During his formative years, he moved to London to further his education but continued to nurture his passion for music by forming a band and performing at local events. His experiences as a DJ and MC laid the foundation for the career that would eventually lead him to international stardom.

Here are some interesting facts about him that you may not know:

I was trying to come up with a name and all I could think of was Burna Boy.

There’s a common misconception around sampling in Afrobeats that needs clarification.

Over the years, artists have often drawn inspiration from other musicians' works—whether old or new—to create fresh tracks, and Afrobeats as a genre wholeheartedly embraces this culture.

Interestingly, musical inspiration can come from a range of sources beyond just other songs. Movie scenes, motivational quotes, and even snippets of conversation can all spark new musical ideas, and vice-versa. Sampling has become the most popular term associated with this practice, though it’s often mistaken for interpolation due to their similarities.

To clarify: a sample involves directly using a snippet of an original recording in a new track. Meanwhile, an interpolation is a recreation of a song’s melody or composition, played note-for-note, without using the original audio.

For example, if you performed the melody from 2Baba’s “African Queen” in your own song, that would be an interpolation. But if you included an unedited loop from the original recording, that would be a sample.

For context, the Rema song below is a sample, where he brilliantly incorporated the 1985 jazz hit ‘Is It a Crime’ by Nigerian-British soul singer Sade Adu.

  • 'Love me Jeje' - Seyi Sodimu, interpolated by Tems on 'Love me Jeje'

  • 'Kpolongo' - Danfo Drivers, interpolated by Tekno on 'Jogodo'

  • 'Agogo ko ma ro' - K1 De Ultimate, interpolated by Davido on 'Like Dat'
  • 'Esubiribiri ebomi' - King Sunny Ade, interpolated by Mohbad on 'Sorry'
  • 'Opon Apala ti sun' - Musiliu Haruna Ishola, interpolated by Adekunle Gold on 'Rodo'

Bose Ogulu, affectionately known as Mama Burna, or simply Burna boy's Mother, has emerged as a formidable figure in the music industry, not only as the mother of Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy but also as his manager.

Bose Ogulu’s early influences and background

Bose Ogulu was born into a family steeped in musical heritage. Her father, Benson Idonije, was the first manager of the legendary Fela Kuti, a pioneer of the Afrobeats genre. Growing up in this environment, Ogulu was exposed to the intricacies of artist management from a young age. She learnt invaluable lessons about the importance of trust and responsibility in the manager-artist relationship, which would later shape her approach to managing Burna Boy’s career.

SEE All Burna Boy's Album and Ranking

With a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages and a Master’s in Translation, Ogulu initially pursued a career in academia, teaching at the University of Education in Port Harcourt until 2018. However, her passion for music and her innate understanding of the industry led her to take on the role of manager for her son, who expressed a desire to pursue music over traditional education.

Her transition to management

Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, sought his mother’s guidance in 2010 after releasing his debut single, Freedom Freestyle. Recognizing her expertise and unwavering support, he invited her to manage his burgeoning career. This decision marked the beginning of a transformative journey for both mother and son.

Ogulu’s management style is characterised by a deep commitment to nurturing Burna Boy’s artistic vision while ensuring he remains grounded amidst the pressures of fame. She once said, “If you have a manager that you trust, you can focus on your music.”

Her management prowess became evident as she successfully navigated the complexities of the music industry, securing recording deals and orchestrating international collaborations. Her strategic approach has been instrumental in Burna Boy’s rise to global stardom, culminating in numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021.

Balancing motherhood and career

Juggling the roles of a mother and manager is no small feat, but Ogulu embraces the challenge with grace. She emphasizes the importance of being present for her children, including her daughter Nissi, who is also pursuing a music career. In addition, she founded the Spaceship Collective, an entertainment and publishing company for African artists. Mama Burna’s ability to balance her professional responsibilities with her family life is a testament to her resilience and dedication.

In interviews, Burna boy's Mother reflects on the challenges of managing multiple creative careers within her family, describing them as both fulfilling and demanding. She also notes that her approach is rooted in open communication and mutual respect, allowing her children to explore their artistic paths while providing guidance when needed.

The impact of recognition

Mrs Ogulu’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including the History Maker Award at the Best of Africa Awards, recognising her contributions to the continent’s music industry. Her public appearances, such as accepting awards on behalf of Burna Boy, have further solidified her status as a respected figure in the industry.

Moreover, Ogulu's speeches often highlight the importance of African identity in the global music landscape, reminding audiences of the rich cultural heritage that informs their artistry. Her advocacy for African music extends beyond her son’s career, as she aims to elevate the profiles of other African artists through her company, Spaceship Collective.
